WHY GO GREEK?

Each Greek organization has different qualities and offers different things to their members. It is important to talk to members of each of the sororities on campus to see which is the best fit for you.

Being part of a Greek organization is a big part of your University life, and it is something that will last a lifetime. The people you meet, friendships you make, and experiences you have will help you in all aspects of life. International Greek organizations provide a support network for their members. It is a great way to meet other people on campus, and connect to the university. It is a way to give back to the community by volunteering and fundraising for charities or events run on campus or in the area. Academic excellence is very important, and many chapters require their members to have a minimum GPA and offer many scholarships. Having upper year and lower year students working together creates an informal mentor-mentee relationship that can be very beneficial for everyone involved.

The Benefits of Joining an INTERNATIONAL Sorority vs. Local:

International sororities have chapters all over North America, giving members a huge network of sisters to help them in all areas of life whether it is just for support or for finding a job, your sisters are there for you. Phi Sigma Sigma has over 100 chapters in North America and over 60,000 members. We have 97 years of tradition and rituals that bind us as sisters. Although Phi Sigma Sigma was founded so long ago do not let that fool you, we are very modern in what we undertake. We choose our philanthropies, our socials and our sisterhoods, we have a say in what we choose to take on and how we mould and enhance Phi Sigma Sigma. As an international sorority we can continue to take part in our Phi Sigma Sigma membership well beyond our University years through alumni chapters. You can also become an advisor for other college chapters! We have leadership conventions every year which our executive board attends. Through opportunities such as conventions, road trips, vacations and emails we can meet our Phi Sigma Sigma sisters all over the world.

WHY PHI SIGMA SIGMA?

Community Service:
The most gratifying aspect of Greek Life is the satisfaction and pride that comes with involvement in community service. We recognize the need and concern to raise money and donate time to special philanthropies. Phi Sigma Sigma's national charity is The National Kidney Foundation (we have raised over $1000 each year for the past few years).  We join with other greek groups to participate in various philanthropic activities which vary over the years. Once a month, we help Canadian Blood Services on campus by handing out refreshments to donors and thank them for their donation. We giftwrap at Devonshire mall around Christmas time, and in the past year we have volunteered at the Paralympics. This is only a sample of all the things the members of Phi Sigma Sigma dedicate their time to, and we're always looking for more. We value our members ideas and are open to suggestions.

Friendship:
The most important component of sorority life is friendship. Greek Life is a time when friendships develop through living, studying, hanging out, socializing, volunteering and working together. It is the sense of family that the organization provides. Even after graduation the bond of sisterhood still exists. These are the best years of our lives, your sisters are here to make them unforgettable.

Leadership:
Membership in a sorority or fraternity provides many leadership opportunities for university students that they may not get elsewhere. Phi Sigma Sigma holds an annual leadership conference in addition to the hands on experience members can get within their own chapter. The Executive Board and committee chair positions give our sisters the opportunity to display the qualities that make them leaders.

Lifetime Membership:

"Once a Phi Sigma Sigma, Always a Phi Sigma Sigma."
After graduation, you are still a member of Phi Sigma Sigma. Alumnae members are as important to the successful running of a chapter as its active members are. Our alumnae members act as our Chapter Advisors, help with fundraising and planning, and use their expertise and experience to help the chapter.

Scholarship:
Being a smaller university, and having upper year and lower year members means that chances are good someone in the sorority has already taken that class, or had that professor, or is at least in the same program. Your sisters experiences can help you do better. Our members try to take classes together wherever possible to help make studying less tedious and more interesting. Education is the reason we attend university, joining a sorority isn't going to change that. In fact, the Delta Epsilon chapter ensures that school comes first. We require a minimum GPA from our members that is higher then the University's minimum. If a sister does fall short, we are here to help and have a scholarship program designed exactly for these situations. We do our best to plan meetings and events around our members class schedules so that they are not missing out. Additionally, we hold study groups, and have active sisters that are or have been Residence Assistances, Teaching Assistances, and employees of the University of Windsor. Phi Sigma Sigma also offers thousands of dollars in scholarships each year that all sisters are eligible to apply for.

Sisterhood:
We know that a lot of what a Greek organization offers its members can be done without being Greek. You don't have to join a sorority to volunteer, or meet new people, or gain leadership skills. Sisterhood, however, is harder to come by. The companionship and support your sisters provide isn't something that's easy to explain but it's one of the main reasons people join and what keeps a sorority running successfully. It is something that you need to come out and see and experience for yourself.

Social:
We know that University life is a lot more then academics. Developing social skills is also crucial for the "real world". The social activities planned are designed to help members build these and other skills. Phi Sigma Sigma is a great way to meet and interact with other students, faculty and people in the community and acts as a great networking tool. As a member of Greek Life, you will meet a lot of people in other sororities and fraternities, and form friendships outside of your own chapter. Some events are for sisters only, while others are planned with other Greeks or organizations. We play laser tag, board games, volleyball, we go bowling, rock climbing, and mini golfing. We go out for lunch or dinner, or to the movies, we throw pot-lucks and we attend socials and charitable events hosted by other groups on campus. We go on road trips, we organize and attend formals mainly, WE HAVE FUN!
